Iko Merkel
System Designer & Producer

Hiya and Salutations! I'm Iko, a game designer, and producer. I'm also an avid birdwatcher, a hobby that reflects the way I design games. When a mother bird raises their young from a clutch of eggs, they take a lot of steps to help the chances of the clutch hatching and growing up. They build adaptive nests designed to provide the right conditions in varying climates, and the mother makes slight adjustment to keep the clutch warm and healthy.
Similar to the birds I study, I've learned how to not only form ideas, but how to care for them as they grow and mature. It's been important for me to learn how to easily traverse the pipeline of raising ideas to tangible designs. To start the clutch I develop potent mixtures of systems, mechanics, and narrative. To nurture the idea until fruition, I've learned to use efficient asset pipelines, easy to navigate documentation, and rapid prototyping. To teach ideas to fly, I have experience fine tuning for player experience and gather player feedback for iterations.
I'm excite for any opportunity to help take any project looking to take a strong idea and develop it into a full fledge design oozing with personal identity. If you're in need of someone to track down what makes your game special and how to fine tune it for your audience's experience, just reach out to me with my contact info below.

BotaniCore is a grid based strategy game designed around modular spaceships. Build a battleship out of a wide variety of parts and systems to experiment with. Build your perfect ship and then fly into dogfights with opposing contraptions to see who comes out on top. Take care of the crew of misfits you gather on board, and protect the garden on your ship at all costs. Those plants on board are worth more than you could ever imagine.
